What Can I Expect?

At Tree of Life Children’s Center, you will complete a comprehensive assessment with one of our trained and licensed therapists. The assessment is broken down into looking at the parent’s perspective of the child and the family, as well as the child’s perspective. The following areas will be addressed:

Parental Domains

  • Physical needs (such as safety and physical health needs)

  • Emotionally stimulating activities (such as family activities, and other activities outside the home or with friends)

Child Domains

  • Mental health indicators

  • Participation in social activities

  • School performance and attitudes toward work

  • Family and social relationships

The questions will assess the child and parent capacity in each of the domains used to determine overall functioning of the child in the environment.  Each question will be assigned a score, and the scores will be added together to determine the level of risk in each domain. If level of risk is elevated in a specific domain, the clinician will recommend goal-driven objectives for the child and family to complete.

For example, a child that scores high on a domain regarding social relationships will be given goals that will help him become more comfortable in connecting with others and increasing assertiveness.

Our Program

The program at Tree of Life Children’s Center involves the entire family in the change process. The child will participate in individual therapy and parents may also participate in family therapy with their child. Parents are an important part of the therapeutic process, so their involvement is mandatory. In other words, change is happening within the whole family unit.
